Scholarships
Education in Kenya is based on a user pays system. Many young people cannot afford to study beyond high school, some cannot even afford to go to high school.
Kenya Help provides scholarships for Christian students in Kenya who otherwise would not be able to continue thier education.
Ben completed high school in 2006 at SOS, Hermann Gmeiner Secondary School in Eldoret and although his marks were high enough, he could not afford to continue onto university. He has worked hard ever since saving hard with the hope of one day having enough to pay his entrance fee to study computer science. We met Ben during a Mission Awareness Trip in January 2009 and we were impressed by his work ethic and determination.
While we were still in Kenya, we committed to contribute towards his entrance fees and his first semester fees. We have further committed to contribute towards his fees and living costs for the next four years.
Ben now attends Maseno University IAT (Institute of Advanced Technology).
About $8,000 (AUD) over 3 years pays the educational fees for Ben, while about an extra $1,500 (AUD) per year would cover his accommodation and food.
UPDATE January 2012: Ben is now in is final year of his course. It will be wonderful see Ben complete his studies and go on to serve God & others.
Tony has been unable to complete high school. He previously had been promised sponsorship from other sources but disappointingly it did not come through. He is a bright and enthusiastic student and with our help, he should be able to complete high school. Due to circumstances Tony was unable to complete his high school studies as expected by the end of 2011. We are discussing options with Tony to enable him to complete high school in 2012.
About $300 (AUD) will pay for Tony's fees and enable him to complete high school. He is now sharing accommodation with Ben.
Maish is the Associate Pastor at Lifespring Chapel (one of our partnership churches). He is currently completing a post graduate degree in Church Administration at Africa International University in Nairobi. We have able to assist Maish with his fees.
Wycliffe is a young man with a passion to server God & is now in his first year at Africa International University studying Theology. Wycliffe's fees for his first year havof even provided beom generous help of one supporter. However, we need to look towards the future and raise enough funds to assist Wycliffe to complete his studies over the next few years.
As other oportunities arise, and funds become available, we would like to offer scholarships to other young Kenyans. Can you help?
